Bringing Concrete to Life: 3D Animation for BaM’s KUKA Robotic Arm

3D concrete printing is transforming how we think about construction. At the heart of this innovation is BaM (Building Additive Manufacturing), a pioneer in robotic building solutions. To showcase their vision, I collaborated with Push Play on an explainer video that highlights how a KUKA robotic arm can print concrete structures with speed and precision.

My role was to create the 3D models of the KUKA arm and bring them to life through animation. The result is a visual story that makes complex technology clear, engaging, and inspiring.

Turning Robotics Into Storytelling

Animating industrial machinery comes with its own challenges. It is not enough for the robotic arm to move, it has to move with purpose. Every joint, pivot, and extrusion had to reflect how a real KUKA robotic arm operates. The goal was to balance engineering accuracy with visual storytelling, ensuring the animation would resonate with both technical experts and a broader audience.

My Contribution

  • 3D Modeling – I built a detailed digital version of the KUKA arm, replicating its industrial design and mechanics.

  • Rigging & Animation – The model was rigged to move authentically, simulating the precision of an actual robotic arm as it layered concrete into form.

  • Integration – Working closely with Push Play, the animations were placed into a dynamic environment that demonstrates the potential of 3D concrete printing in action.

Why This Project Matters

Additive manufacturing in construction is not science fiction, it is happening now. By visualizing BaM’s robotic printing process, the video makes the technology tangible for partners, stakeholders, and the public. It shows how robotics can build structures more efficiently, reduce waste, and open new possibilities for architectural design.

Final Thoughts

Working on this project was about more than creating 3D assets, it was about transforming advanced technology into a story people can understand at a glance. For me, it is a perfect example of how 3D animation can bridge the gap between complex engineering and clear communication.
